Website accessibility statement

Our commitment

United National Photographers wants as many people as possible to be able to use this website. Visitors should be able to find information about our photographers, services, locations, case studies and Picture Desk without avoidable barriers.

Accessibility is treated as part of our ongoing editorial, design and website-maintenance work. It is considered when we publish new pages, add photography, update forms or introduce new components.

Accessibility standard

We aim to align the principal content, navigation and interactive components of the UNP website with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at Level AA.

This is an ongoing objective rather than a claim that every historical item or third-party feature is fully compliant in every circumstance. We review and improve the website as content, standards and browser technology change.

How the website is designed

Our current accessibility approach includes:

• Using a clear heading structure so pages can be understood and navigated more easily.
• Providing meaningful page titles, labels and link text rather than relying on vague instructions such as “click here”.
• Maintaining strong contrast between text, controls and their backgrounds.
• Providing descriptive alternative text for informative photography and treating decorative imagery appropriately.
• Supporting keyboard access to navigation, links, buttons and forms.
• Providing visible focus states for interactive elements.
• Using labelled form controls and understandable validation or error messages where forms are provided.
• Designing responsive layouts that remain usable when text is enlarged or the page is viewed on smaller screens.
• Respecting reduced-motion preferences where animation or movement is used.
• Using semantic HTML, meaningful landmarks and accessible names wherever practical.

Browser and device compatibility

The website is designed for current versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Core content should remain available when visitors use browser zoom, keyboard navigation, screen readers, magnification software or operating-system accessibility settings.

Older browsers, unsupported devices and some combinations of browser and assistive technology may not provide the same experience as current software.

Known limitations

UNP has operated since 1997 and the website contains historical photography, archive material and older editorial content. Although we continue to improve legacy material, some older items may not yet meet the same standard as newly published pages.

Areas that may require further improvement include:

• Some older images may have limited alternative text or inherited metadata.
• Some historic PDF documents may not be fully tagged or optimised for screen-reader navigation.
• Third-party websites, embedded services and externally hosted documents are outside UNP’s direct control.
• Complex visual material may require an additional written explanation or alternative format.
• Some legacy WordPress components may be progressively replaced or improved as pages are reviewed.

These limitations do not prevent you from asking us for assistance or requesting information in a more accessible format.

How we review accessibility

We use a combination of automated checks and manual review. Depending on the page or component, this may include:

• keyboard-only navigation checks;
• heading, landmark and document-structure review;
• colour-contrast analysis;
• form label and focus-state checks;
• responsive and enlarged-text testing;
• automated accessibility audits; and
• review of image alternative text and link purpose.

Automated testing can identify only part of the accessibility picture. We therefore treat accessibility as an ongoing process and welcome feedback from people using different browsers, devices and assistive technologies.

Report an accessibility problem

Please contact the UNP Picture Desk if you encounter an accessibility problem, believe that we have missed a barrier, or need information in a different format.

Please include the address of the page, a brief description of the problem and, where relevant, the browser, device or assistive technology you were using.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility-related enquiries within two working days and will explain what we can do to help.

Alternative formats

Where reasonably possible, we can provide website information in an alternative format. This may include plain text, a simplified document or a more accessible copy of an existing file.
